The iBook Aquisition Struggle

So on Friday, Aracely told me she had the money to buy her new iBook. I was like, “OK I will start looking on ebay and we should have it in a couple of weeks.” Then she said that is too long. She needs it next week before they go to Boston because the laptop she is currently using she is giving to Emily (for college).

I was feeling a little overwhelmed. It takes time to hunt down and bid on stuff on ebay. I started looking and then remembered that Ed told her about a listing for a refurbished iBook on dealmac for $699. So I looked it up and it was OK, but it didn’t have all the stuff she needed, so we would eventually have to spend over $300 more upgrading it. By then we could have had a brand new machine that didn’t need the upgrades.

Then I looked at the listing below it. It was an iBook G4 1.2 with Airport Extreme and a Combo Drive for only $50 more! All it needs is a little memory upgrade for 60 bucks and it will be what she needs!

So then begins the struggle to get it. I was trying to track down Tim (Aracely’s husband) who was out of town with Aracely and her mom. I thought he was here in Chicago, I kept wondering why he wasn’t calling me back! I was about to burst with excitement because there was only a few of these iBooks and it was an amazing deal. I was agonizing over why he wasn’t calling me back. I then started calling other people to see if they have seen Tim and one of the people I called is Scott. So while I am on the phone with Scott, Tim calls and says to go for it. So now I had to find a credit card to buy it with. Scott let me use his card.

So I get on the Apple site and start punching in all the stuff and when I get to the end, it tells me the credit card info is wrong. I tried again, same thing. I was determined not to be defeated!

By then it was dinnertime, so I went back across the street and ran up the stairs to Scott’s room. His wife told me he was outside with the kids. So I run back downstairs and out to the side yard and find Scott. He told me I had the number written down wrong. So I grab some dinner and ran over to the office and punched it all in (with the correct numbers this time) and got it! We had the iBook!

When I called Tim back to tell him we got it, he said Aracely was weeping with joy.

All this over a silly laptop.
